Intuitively it would seem that vocabulary would be of great importance and many researchers have cited vocabulary as being of prime importance as a factor influencing the readability of texts.

In order to facilitate readability consider:

• Using a simple summary of the text so that readers can activate appropriate schema;
• Adding appropriate extra textual features;
• Using glosses in appropriate cases;
• Using superordinate terms in an explanation, but with care when rewriting a text because of collocational and register constraints.
